Management structure - Role of the partners

Management structure :

The task leaders (TL) will inform the project coordinator (PC) every 6 months about progress and difficulties in the task under their responsibility, and about their budgetary situation. Meetings will be organised every 6 months in average with a session open to partner representatives only (Management committee), and a public session open to all participants, observers, scientists, and participants of other detector JRA.

Several tasks of the MILAND project have an overlap with the other detector JRA, in particular those concerning MSGC, MWPC, and ASIC electronics. The procedure for testing the detection parameters could be standardized in agreement with the other JRA participants, like it is the case for medical X-Ray detectors. The detector-JRA PC have meet in Saclay in December 2002, and they agreed on organizing common detector meetings.

The number of neutron detector developers, who are regularly active in this field, is very limited. NMI3 is the first attempt to organize this small community by projects and technical objectives. A similar action has been launched in July 2002 in the United-States to support the development of neutron detectors for SNS, and Japan will follow soon. These organizations will strongly interact in the future.

Short technical progress report and oral presentations will be solicited to animate the exchange of information during the public session.

Budgetary issues and decisions concerning the project will be discussed during the management committee meetings.

Notes and presentations will be available on the web page of the MILAND project under the responsibility of the PC.

Annual reports will include an extensive description of the progress in each task, written by each TL, and an updated work plan, written by the PC.

In addition to the regular meetings, there will be small working meetings devoted to specific tasks, with only the participants of that task being present, plus eventually the PC.

To activate the exchange of information, e-mail distributed to all participants will be encouraged.

Role of the partners :

Seven European partners and three non-European observers will participate to the project. All participants have a strong experience in neutron detectors, and several of them in high energy physics and X-Ray detection. Non-European observers are world experts in detectors, already involved in non-official collaborations with some of the partners. They are strongly interested to participate to MILAND in view of the future spallation sources (SNS, JSNS). On the other hand, their participation to meetings and prototype measurements will be very valuable to stimulate fruitful discussions.
